Landing the Part
Ethan Hawke (The Newton Boys, Great Expectations) was originally set to be Faramir
and star alongside his wife, Uma Thurman, as Éowyn. Infact, in 1999 Ethan
confirmed to a Norweigan newspaper that a rumor he would be starring in the
films was "... no longer a rumour. I will be Faramir, the brother of Boromir..." But Ethan was pipped
to the post by David, and I'm sure through no coincidence Mirando Otto was later
cast as Éowyn. Also, Orlando Bloom originally read for the part but was
told it "wasn't available" to him. David says that he landed the part when Peter Jackson pursued him after
enjoying his performance in The Boys.
General Tidbits
→ David spent about four to five months filming in New Zealand.
Cast Relations
→ Cate Blanchett (Galadriel) - David has worked on the same theatre team as
this fellow Aussie.
→ Hugo Weaving (Elrond) - David stars alongside Hugo in
the film Russian Doll.
→ Miranda Otto (Éowyn) - Shockingly, he was photographed with her at the Emirates
Awards in 2000, looking very cosy - click here!
And that's not all. "Quickbeam" of theonering
recently had the opportunity to visit the set of the movie. When shooting was
finished, he took a break at the 'Steam Boat Karaoke Bar' and noted
"Miranda Otto arrived on the arm of David Wenham. Faramir and Éowyn
together at last! Was this an off-camera romance? I was a little too fuzzy to
hold up a conversation with them, so I stayed in my seat." How about
that! Unfortunately the answer is no - David has a long-time girlfriend, Kate
Agnew.
